Families

Are all families dysfunctional? What makes a family functional?

Personally, I think every family is both functional and dysfunctional. It is normal to have those little oddities, and every family I have came across is dysfunctional in their own way. You cannot live with a group of people and never have a disagreement. It is impossible, because everyone is their own person and people don't think the same regardless if they have the same blood.

I actually live with my parents right now at the age of 23. I'm living with them to save money while going to school. We have a larger house, so we're usually all spaced out and can get quiet time if need be. What is neat about my family is that we all get along very, very well. Sure, we annoy the hell out of each other, but it keeps things from getting boring. My family is pretty functional, yet we have our dysfunctional times. I don't think we can all go somewhere without someone being late, and then we all end up arguing about who it was until we get to the place. It happens EVERY time. But it's normal to have little tiffs with people you're close to. You can tell them what is on your mind, and you're comfortable with them. I love my dysfunctional family.

I think, to be a functional family, you need to have a little dysfunction at times. If you're constantly functional, something has got to be wrong. Be proud of the silly dysfunctions. :)
